ustin Klump is an emerging Folk Rock singer-songwriter based out of Portland, OR. Since his first release in 2006, Justin has established himself as an authentic and highly talented songwriter, singer, guitarist and producer.
Justin was raised with a deep love and appreciation for music of all styles. The grandson of a symphony conductor, Justin grew up listening to Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and Copeland, as well as Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, James Taylor and Eric Clapton, among many others. Born into a very musical family, Justin began playing the piano at the age of 5. After wanting to learn how to play "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd and falling in love with the music of Dave Matthews Band, Justin picked up a guitar for the first time at the age of 15. Over the next year, he developed his technique by practicing up to 8 hours each day. A year later, Justin began taking private lessons, further developing his technique while learning arrangements from Parkening, Tarrega and Segovia.
At the age of 16, Justin began writing songs and quickly developed a keen sense for composing beautiful melodies and penning engaging lyrics. In 2003, Seattle P.I. named Justin one of the "Top 21 Artists Under 21” and wrote, "[Justin's] acoustic guitar and heart-on-sleeve lyrics will make you wish you'd never stopped keeping that personal journal!"
In September 2006, Justin self-released a 6-song EP entitled "Something for September". Attracting national attention with the release, INDIE-MUSIC.com wrote, "Klump looks into people's hearts and souls, and he manages to put some of the most conflicting feelings into words." MINOR 7th ACOUSTIC GUITAR MAGAZINE also highlighted the release saying, "23 year-old singer-songwriter Justin Klump made some very wise investment choices as a very young man. He took a road less traveled for a teen, immersing himself in the rigors of classical guitar study and obviously earning some artistic capital in the process." Using the momentum built with the release, Justin spent the next two years developing his craft performing throughout America.
In November of 2008, Justin released his first full-length album, "Thousand Mile Dream". With another independent release under his belt, Justin again received national media attention. MUSIC CITY UNSIGNED in Nashville, TN wrote, "You need to check out "Thousand Mile Dream"…from the super-catchy ‘A Song for You’ and ‘Slowly Changing’ to the tender poignancy of ‘Someday Soon’ and ‘More than Twice’, Justin Klump writes and plays honest, introspective acoustic pop folk music that will warm your heart and your mood." In a feature highlighting Justin's career, Portland radio station, 101.9 KINK.fm, declared "He's been playing to packed crowds around town, and now Justin's creating a national following."
Touring in support of "Thousand Mile Dream" in 2009 and 2010, Justin logged well over 100,000 miles performing at theaters, clubs, colleges and festivals from coast to coast. He co-headlined the Oregon Zoo Summer Concert Series (B-52's, Jewel, Amos Lee, Brandi Carlile), performed live on AM Northwest (ABC) and shared the stage with many notable acts including Matt Nathanson, Everclear, Tyrone Wells and Jason Reeves. In November, after having performed at numerous colleges throughout the U.S. for the previous three years, Justin was selected to showcase at the National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) West Conference.
During the later part of 2010 and early 2011, Justin turned most of his attention to writing and recording new demos for an upcoming release. In July of 2011, he released a 4-song EP entitled, "Life. Longing. Love. Acoustic Sessions, Volume 1." In the same month, he released a music video for his song, "I Love You So", which has received thousands of views on YouTube and been featured by Bourgeois Guitars, SOUNDS THAT MATTER, 101.9 KINK.fm and Berklee College of Music, among many others.
Justin Klump is currently writing, and touring regularly throughout the United States. His forthcoming album is due out early 2012.
