Who says love doesn’t last? Not Malice and Mario Sweet! This happily married couple has not only beaten the odds with their enduring relationship, but they have decided to share their passion for life and each other with the world through their nostalgic, heartfelt music. This love for music is what inspired this duo to commemorate their two year wedding anniversary by way of a seven track EP called “Happy 2 Year.” Although this project was their first formal collaborative effort, Malice and Mario Sweet have been musically active for several years. Most notably, this couple has been singing background vocals for the Seattle-centric, grown and sexy Hip Hop group, The Physics. They have been fortunate enough to grace stages throughout the Puget Sound area while finding comfort and joy in singing in front of large crowds of receptive music connoisseurs.
In 2010, Mario took it upon himself to compile a hit laden mix tape called “Seattle’s Best Free Compilation” This mix tape was filled to the brim with some of the best Hip Hop Seattle had to offer. Mario released it with the hope of shedding more light on the unique local music scene. He not only accomplished that goal; he also solidified himself as a musical tastemaker which helped provide the motivation to start creating music with his wife, Malice Sweet.
Malice Sweet, a neo-soul influenced songstress, who credits Erykah Badu among others for her desire to share her vocal artistry, jumped at the opportunity to work on a project with her musically inclined husband. The duo spent long hours writing, practicing, networking, and home-recording amidst a busy schedule consumed by full time jobs and graduate school study sessions. Their excitement and determination can be credited for their ability to complete the entire project from start to finish within four months.
“Happy 2 Year” has not only garnered local love, but has reached blogs and radio stations throughout the world. Most notably, the EP has graced the nationally popular blog Soul Bounce and was recently played during a BBC Gilles Peterson Amy Winehouse tribute show. Their music has been downloaded from as far away as Japan, Kenya and Kazakhstan. Malice and Mario Sweet have no intentions of slowing down or turning their back on the music that unites them to each other and their fans. Music IS what makes love last!
